In July 1973, Bowie, who declared his retirement as “Ziggy Stardust”, was i nfluenced by George Orwell’s work “1984” while considering the next concept. It will be done. What was realized instead is “The 1980 Floor Show” w hich was broadcast on TV on the popular music program “Midnight Special” on the national network. This program with a strange title that puns on “1 984”, which had already been prepared as a new song, was broadcast on TV in Japan at the time, and it left a strong impact as a bewitching near-fut ure show for former Bowie fans. Except for some sound sources, it has not been officially visualized so far, and it has been in a situation where it can only be seen in video images with degraded image quality. Footage of unedited material leaked. Since then, multiple collector’s items have been circulated, but for fans, it is known as a startling item that has caused a stir, but the original editing is sloppy, and duplicates and unrelated images have be en added, and the image has been made to be higher quality than the TV broadcast. There is also a time code display at the bottom of the screen, and the sound range is low, and the quality is not perfect, and the content is redundant. What is recorded this time is a genuine direct master that sets it apart from the leaked images so far, and there is no time code display that was an obstacle from beginning to end, and the image quality and sound quality are recorded at the highest level. It is the definitive edition of the DVD 4-disc set that is incomparable to the past items in terms of high image q uality and high sound quality, with a total of nearly 8 hours of main work an d rehearsal.

The first half of DVD 1 contains “COMPLETE RECREATION MASTER” reconstructed based on the direct master with the concept of complete reproduction of the show itself. It is multi-angle edited like the TV broadcast and recorded as a complete version of the first appearance 70-minute version by original original editing including guest appearances Marianne Faithfull, Carmen, Troggs and TV unaired parts.
In the second half, “Midnight Special”, which was broadcast on TV in the United States in 1973, was recorded as the original video at the time. Compared to the direct master, the video quality is degraded, but the broadcast as it was at the time, in cluding Wolfman Jack’s MC, was recorded. It is a nostalgic TV broadcast video for fans of the past who can check the difference in editing from the first half.
On the following 3 DVDs, “COMPLETE LOST MASTERS” is a complete recording of all the main scenes from the existing original master of t he long rehearsal outtake video of about 6 hours. As a recording for the TV show, it was lip-synced to match the sound of the live performance in advance, and the unedited recording of the careful rehearsal of repeating the timing and choreography of the song over and over again.
The video materials from various camera angles, including rough scenes where you laugh or make mistakes along the way, are now a valuable record, and the complete version with high image quality without time code is now available for th e first time. Bowie’s own part, of course, is host Amanda Lear, who was noted for Roxy Music’s album cover, Spanish rock band = Carmen, which is popular among prog fans, 60’s British beat Troggs, and 60’s. All scenes of Marianne Faithfull, who transformed from a fairy-like idol to a mysterious beauty witch, are also included. Guest appearances are also a must-see for many interesting scenes in this high-quality video.

After nearly 50 years, this precious recorded video has finally been revived with high image quality, just like the Beatles’ “GET BACK”, which was a hot topic last year, a long-a waited release that can be said to be a miracle excavation that overturns the impression so far! It is the latest collector’s edition of Bowie’s attention that will be re-evaluated in documentary movies and reissues of 70’s albums in 2022! !
