This was sold out immediately and another concert was inserted for 15th June.
This too was sold out and since the denand was still so great, the best solution was,of course,to give a concert in a stadium.
However, this concert was not completely sold out and that was the reason why a number of tickets went to England and Holland; lots of people passed out and were carried off,as in Paris.
There were fights and ,above all, a tremendous crush:it was impossible to stay on your feet and there were those who were litterally trampled under foot. And on top of this the concert was not good, one of the worst of the tour. Bowie was bored and was unable to produce so much as a spontaneous laugh.
On the tape one can hear that Bowie was very tired and no enthusiastic audience can be heard. “This song is from an album called Hunky Dory“ Bowie says with a dry voice.
After introducing the band he says “What are your names – to start with you”. At that moment a piece of firework was thrown at the globe and exploded with a big crash. Bowie tried to laugh, but was shaken !
The first of a series of five open-air concerts in Germany. Originally the planning had been for a concert in the Gruga Halle,Essen on 14th June.
